Kristen and Dave - Snow Mountain Ranch Wedding

Kristen wanted happy flowers. In happy colors. Happy affordable flowers in happy colors. This is a good way to start the wedding marathon that Rami and I had this past weekend. For Kristen and Dave, we mixed sunflowers (happy) with gerber daises (super happy) scattered in a few tulips (yep - happy) and tied it all together with a few asiatic lilies in happy bright shades of yellow, orange and red.

And when Kristen's parents arrived at the studio this morning to pick everything up, they were as kind and happy as the flowers we had created. Here's to a beautiful day. We cant wait to see your pictures!

I will admit it. I love Facebook. I love "seeing" old friends and catching up with people out of the blue. So when I received some of these pictures posted on my page from a wedding we did 3 years ago, it made my day. Here is what the email said . . .

Tara and Curtis took a chance on us when we were just hitting our stride and finding our design style. Leah and Rich - Devils Thumb Ranch Wedding

Leah and Rich's wedding last weekend at Devils Thumb Ranch was gorgeous, simple and fun. And Leah was getting married outside - come hell or high water - the ceremony was happening OUTSIDE. Luckily for us, the universe agreed, the rain and snow were kept at bay (possibly by sheer force of will on Leah's part) and the sun even appeared for the 15 minute ceremony. One of my favorite parts of the decor (all bamboo and orchids) - Leah's bouquet. She gave me free reign to run with it and create something unique.

Yep, it's a Ranch. A gorgeous Ranch. With running horses. And wild clouds. And WHAT IS THAT? Yes, a friendly (??) neighborhood fox strolled up to the ceremony site and decided to watch the wedding. It's a ranch . . .

And the goldfish on the bar? Started as a joke - but why not? They worked with the color palatte. As always, CR and Tiffany of Brinton Studios did another beautiful job (and I am just glad that Tiffany was not killed by the bull that stalked her after she hopped in the paddock to get the horses running...seriously) Thanks again to Leah and Rich and your fantastic families for making this wedding so much fun. Mrs Bluestein, is the offer to come to Passover still good??

Ear 2 Ear Photobooth and Pick Me!

Okay . . .Leah and Rich's wedding last weekend at Devil's Thumb Ranch was absolutely hysterical. This couple decided that their rehearsal dinner theme was "Ugly Sweaters" (By the way, no one told me this prior, so you can imagine how confused/frightened I was by the ensembles showing up at rehearsal. When Rich showed up with a sequined sweater - with the arms 4" too short - WITH FEATHERS ON IT - I decided it was time to ask some questions. . .)

Needless to say - a couple this fun has friends and family this fun. Ear2Ear Photobooths were hired to complete the festivities. Trust me - when the gondola photobooth turned on - EVERYONE got in to take some great pictures. As usual, John and Jeff (with assistance from the lovely Kim) made sure a good time was had by all.

Tessa and Michael's Devils Thumb Ranch Wedding

Tessa and Michael's wedding last Saturday at Devils Thumb Ranch was the perfect way to launch our summer wedding season. This couple (who I actually met face to face 3 days prior to the big day) found all of us (Pick Me, Brinton Studios, Devils Thumb and Teacup) online, took a leap of faith and booked - site unseen! Although this Texas couple was a tad suprised by the amount of snow on May 1 (who are we kidding - we all were) they took it all in stride and had fun with it. Tessa and Michael were fearless - taking pictures at the stables (I adore the one on the wagon) and hiking out across the snowy field to the fence.

Tessa and Michael, thank you for finding us and trusting us for your floral design and coordination. My only regret was that I wasnt able to join your guests for a sassy game of flip cup after the reception. I can only imagine how much fun it was (your families are the best!)

I wish you both a lifetime of love and happiness.

Rami and I are so fortunate to have the best clients in the world. Smart, sassy girls who take care of business and want to love this day. So when Rami got this email from our friend Tina (who we are fortunate to work with nearly every weekend at Devils Thumb Ranch!! She is one of their fantastic staff members) we nearly died laughing . . .

The email read like this -

"I am in the hospital right now getting ready to go in for a c section. She will be here tonight. On a side note what address would like me to send the check to?"

Tina, we think the world of you and cant wait to meet little Miss Anna. And we cant wait to help you LOVE THIS DAY on August 28 at the Western Riveria. We are going to make your wedding absolutely spectacular. Now seriously, stop writing checks and have a baby already!!

Julie and Andre - Devils Thumb Ranch Wedding

Julie and Andre's Monday Devils Thumb Ranch wedding last August was one of the best weddings I have ever been involved with. This couple is so beautiful and thoughtful - I started crying at our first meeting (and then proceeded in telling them that I would do just about anything to help - just to be involved in this day).

The entire wedding had 27 guests and 13 of them were under the age of 10 (including Julie's adorable son and daughter). We were able to design 2 parties - one for the kiddos on the deck and a dinner party in the Timberhouse after the kids went to the cabins (with babysitters, of course!). Again, my apologies to the babysitters because I went a tad bonkers overdoing the candy bar.

Instead of a traditional flower girl, Julie and Andre included every child at the wedding with Julie's daughter leading the way, throwing petals as high in the air as possible. She then turned around and ran up to the deck to escort her Mom down the aisle. That was when I, the wedding planner, burst into tears . . .again . .

For the adult dinner, we created a kings table in the Timberhouse and filled the center with mono-blossom arrangements in brightly colored glass. A brown runner was added to the center of the table and every free inch was covered in candles.

I was so lucky to work with Jenna and Matt of Jenna Walker Photography on this wedding. As always, they outdid themselves with their incredible work. And on a personal note, I was standing next to Jenna when we saw Julie's son throw the red balloon in the air - immediately Jenna RAN out into the meadow (when she sees the moment happening - it is pure magic) while I untied the rest of the balloons from the kids table and ran them out to the meadow. The end result was one of my favorite wedding pictures of all time.

Julie and Andre, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your wedding day. You two reminded me why I love weddings. I wish your entire family a lifetime of love and happiness.

Maggie and Nick Devils Thumb Ranch Wedding

Maggie and Nick's Devils Thumb Ranch wedding was an absolute joy to work on. Rami worked with Maggie to create an all white floral palatte - Maggie collected vintage glassware (collected here means borrowing, begging, thrift stores, friends houses, etc!!). Each table was built off a mono-blossom theme with one color (but sassy various styles) glass.

And the anemones in March - WOW! Stunning . . .

We wired and hung orchids mixed with crystals from candelabras. When the barn doors opened as Maggie walked up to Nick - absolutely gorgeous! It really is one of my favorite parts of any wedding. The anticipation on the grooms face turning into sheer love and joy. Nothing beats it!

Paula's (from Teacup) yummy cake was one of the hits of the evening. Look out when Maggie has the knife!

Both Maggie and Nick have been missionaries, so this particular wedding was not full of drinkers. Devils Thumb created a coffee bar that warmed everyone up.

I think they "loved this day!"

CR and Tiffany Brinton (of Brinton Studios) have once again made DTR look new and amazing. Maggie and Nick, thank you for trusting us with the details of your special day. You two are truly as on the beautiful inside as you are on the out (and you kind of look like 1940's movie musical stars). We can not wait to see you next time you are visiting. XOXO

Custom Made Monikers for your wedding

Pick Me Floral and Event Design has joined forces with a wildly talented graphic artist to create custom monikers and designs. Best part of it? The artist will design a personal brand for your wedding and then YOU get the rights to the image.

The personalization of a wedding can be as simple as a gorgeous personal touch that can be reused again and again thoughout the design process. The signpost sketch above will be used on the stickers/stamps for the invites as well as the menus and programs. The custom monogram will be used to create a custom brand for details at the ceremony.

Pick Me Floral and Event Design and Wildhorse have a great history with sucessful Winter Park weddings. In celebration of this coming summer, I wanted to highlight some of our combined success stories as well as tell you the history . . .

Once upon a time, a girl name Rami and a girl named Chris (already friends) started brainstorming about weddings in Winter Park, Colorado (and the surrounding areas) and raising the bar. A few weeks (and bottles of wine) later, Wildhorse Inn started marketing gorgeous, intimate Colorado Mountain weddings in the backyard of this delicous B & B in Tabernash, Colorado. Chris did the marketing, planning and cooking and Rami ran the front of house for the events. Rami brought Kara (me!) into the mix (once a waitress . . .) and a sucessful summer of gorgeous Colorado destination weddings happened.

Jump ahead a season or so, Kara and Rami decided to start an event specific floral company and Chris said OK! She gave us her blessing (after a few trial runs) and started refering us. From a professional stand, we all hold each other to a higher level of customer service. From a personal stand, we are all friends with a vested interest in raising the bar for events in and around Winter Park. . . after all, their are Mexican vacations to be had!

Rami and I have been so happy to watch Wildhorse Inn grow into Wildhorse Catering and take this mountain community by storm. We are thrilled for every opportunity to work as team with these talented coordinators, event planners, servers and chefs (Dace, we love you). Here is to a successful 2010 with great stories, happy brides and grooms, yummy food and gorgeous decor and flowers.

Kristen and Spencer - Devils Thumb Ranch Wedding

Kristen and Spencer's July Wedding at Devils Thumb Ranch was the perfect day of the summer. Case in point - the first picture here from Brinton Studios. Would you look at the color of the sky? It's absolutely perfect.

Initially hired to create this fantastic couples flowers - we incorporated big, bright and happy lilies, gerber daises, roses that opened to perfection in the sunshine with snapdragons. This casual handgathered look is one of my favorites to create for an outdoor Colorado wedding. And we were able to use one of my absolute favorite color palattes ever - pink, orange and green. As the planning process moved forward, Kristen and Bet (her Mom) hired us on for day-of coordination as well. One of the best things about CR and Tiffany of Brinton Studios? Even with as many weddings as they have shot at the Ranch, they make it look new and different each time. And in mid - July the wildflowers were absolutely stunning last year!

For tables - we alternated between tall arrangements over everyone's line of site - with lower "sqattier" (is that a word??) version of the same. Rather than a tradition wedding cake, Paula from Teacup made individual cakes which we served on beetlekill stumps to each table. You have never seen wedding guests that happy!!

One of the nicest bridal parties ever. At rehearsal, even when the flower girls walked right past the ceremony site to a field of dandelions during rehearsal and started filling their baskets (Iguess the kids took their jobs as flower girls VERY seriously) no one lost their cool.

Beautiful. Thank you for trusting us with your wedding. Kristen and Spencer (and both of their Mom's) were an absolute joy to work with. I cant wait to go skiing with you two soon!

A few images from my wedding in Puerto Vallarta a few years ago. Trust me, I understand the difficulty of planning a destination wedding (try it with a language barrier!) but at the end of the day, hire people whose work you admire and whose attitude you like (after all, you are spending your wedding day with them also) and trust in them.

I was extremely fortunate to find Christine Vincent of Xinefoto.. She travels worldwide but currently splits her time between NY and PV (perfection). I was also super lucky to stumble upon Epoca (literally, I found this restuarant on a girls trip a year prior to the wedding and it all fell into place). The owner Kurt and his staff went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a blast at the wedding (and got home safely)

I hope that you get to enjoy your wedding day as much as we did. After all, I did LOVE THAT DAY!

Chad and Ashley - Devils Thumb Ranch Wedding

Ashley and Chad's wedding at Devils Thumb Ranch was fun. Really FUN. Ashley - who is currently in our top 5 of most fabulous brides ever - called us last year to plan a fun filled winter destination wedding with lots of flowers, a million+ twinkle lights and a costume change. Yes, we salute the girl who has one dress for the ceremony and one for the party. Our solution? Use the dress as decor (of course)!

Blue hydrangeas, lavender, purple mokara orchids, cool water roses and purple stock. Against the snowy backdrop and the wood barn at the Ranch these cool tones absolutely stole the show.

I love wedding ceremonies in the Timberhouse. We created a curtain backdrop inspired by thee gorgeous columns of an old southern plantation accented with carnation balls. Yep, carnation balls. I am now completely obsessed with them. They are just too fun!

Here is the actual sign that Chad used to pop the question to Ashley.

Okay, you can take the girl out of Louisiana but what we learned what that you can NOT take the Louisiana out of the girl. And honestly? Why would you want to? If you are leaving your own party, why NOT have a parade?? Check out Matt Kenfield's (Elite DJ) Facebook page for the video. It's fantastic.

Of course, as usual Miss Paula of Teacup Bakery absolutely outdid herself with the cake (and the cookies for the welcome bags!! yum)

I read a lot of wedding planning blogs during the week. And sometimes, things become a tad mundane or they start to sound like a lot of recycled information. So when I came across this one today, I actually started to laugh out loud. BravoBride.com/blog Now dont get me wrong, I love Eddie Vedder as much as any girl who graduated from high school in Ohio in the mid 1990's but SERIOUSLY? Take a looks-y at this blog and giggle at the pictures. And remember - planning your wedding is suposed to be fun.

And on a side note, thank you to Miss Sarah (one of my favorite brides EVER) who posted a review of Pick Me Floral and Events Studio on Wedding Wire that said we were better than ambien. I am not gonna lie, I like it.

Vendor Spotlight - Tea-cup

Paula Thomas, you have mad crazy skills. And you are fun to work with. And you are proof that the universe isn't fair if you bake like this and only weigh 100lbs.

Anywho . . .Rami, Paula and I all worked together at the same restaurant in Winter Park about a hundred years ago. Paula left the WP to head off to culinary school while Rami started working with Chris French at the Wildhorse Inn - starting the wedding catering business. I am pretty sure that I went skiing.Jump ahead a few years, Rami and I start Pick Me Flowers. After a few successful seasons focusing on flowers and decor, we recognized the need for local wedding coordinators. People who understand how to bridge the gap between"mountain time" and the rest of the world. So we seized our need to organize (and complete projects on time) and branched (or should I say blossomed???) into Pick Me Floral and Event Design Studio.

About this time Paula was returning from the Caribbean and starting her business in Denver (while making the desserts at Del Frisco's . . .need I say more?)

And these pictures are happy proof of our happy working relationship. We work together to design a theme that will be carried throughout the wedding day. We all believe in less environmental impact - organic cakes, yes! local and seasonal flowers, yes! We all have a love of the Colorado Rockies and we want to reduce our footprint (notice the beetle kill wooden cake stand?)

Mason Jar Madness. This is a must for your ranch wedding. Why? It's simple, it's easy, it's eco-friendly (ask your florist what they have for rent - check out Etsy and see if there is anyone in your neighborhood selling hers from HER wedding) No point in purchasing more. At Pick Me, we have a collection of mason jars dating back to the 1940's that were discovered in a house that Rami's sister bought when she was living in Austin. It's quite a conversation starter for a guest to be looking at your centerpieces and ask "does that jar say mayo???"

Ranch Weddings 101 - part 2!

Welcome back to Ranch Weddings 101 - brought to you from Pick Me Floral and Event Design. The picture below has some more of my absolute musts! A GREAT BARN - Honestly, it's a ranch, right? A great wooden fence - this is where your wedding pictures will be later . . .

Ceremony seating. Okay, if you are getting married on a Ranch, please be eco-friendly. Rather than leaving the carbon footprint of rental chair delivery - use hay bales. Top them with old tablecloths or sheets (this is a great time to do some research on Etsy or check out a local thrift store) Mix and match or uniform - the choice is yours . . .

Some more seating options. The saddle on the hay bale - best way I have ever used to make a 6 year old sit through a ceremony . . .

Okay . . .look above. Pick one or two. That's all. When you are planning your Ranch wedding, it can be tempting to go with every obvious ranch gimic. Either belt buckles or bandanas. Either cowboy hats or running with the ponies in the meadow. One or two of these touches will go a LONG way.

Rustic Archways. Look at what the property offers. Is there a grouping of trees you can hang decor from? Is there a structure that your Ranch offers? Dont fight nature . . .dress up what is already there.

Shepherd Hooks - simple floral arrangements. Best part of these? If you are a thifty Ranch Bride, you can reuse these in the reception.

bamboo Inspiration

This is a fun one I am working on for a springtime wedding. Bamboo stalks in various heights anchored in river rock in rustic wooden boxes paired with dried bamboo stalks - wrapped with twine, hypericum berries and rust colored cymbidium orchids - over celadon tablecloths. Rust colored cymbidium orchids will also be paired with bamboo stalks and mini-callas for a sleek and completely one of a kind bouquet.

And the topper of it all? Celedon green bamboo parasols hanging over the dance floor with a soft uplighting. I cant wait to see it come to life!

Ranch Weddings 101 - Part I

We here at Pick Me Floral and Events love Ranch Weddings. It's kind of like the chicken and the egg question for us. Do we love them so we live here or did we start to love them because Rami and I both live in Tabernash, Colorado. We are not really sure.

So I decided to put together a lot of my inspiration boards for weddings I have designed over the last few years and create Ranch Weddings 101 - a step by step guide to throwing a sasstasstic Colorado Ranch wedding. These pictures are a combination of personal archives (wow, I have those now!) and online research. Enjoy!!

Absolutely mandatory for sassy ranch weddings are the following - gorgeous barn adorned with big heavy muslin curtains, a gentle smattering of hay (which also saves your shoes from mud!) and handpainted signs. Make your own or check out Etsy. . .

Lighting, lighting, lighting. I can not stress it enough. Lanterns, gas light bulbs, chandeliers, twinkle lights, uplighting, chinese lanterns, LED lights, candles. . ..pick your poison. This will have one of the largest impacts on the mood you are creating . . .therefore most of these options will weigh heavily on your decor budget. Call us . . . we have some secrets . . .

I absolutely adore everything about this picture. The chandeliers . . . the tablescape . . . absolute perfection.

Okay, the pictures above and below are to jump start your creativity. What did you love as kid? Smores, bobbing for apples (although this is super messy. . .maybe this should be a rehearsal dinner kind of activity) horseshoes, . . .make something fun and unique. It's a ranch wedding!!! Stop being so serious.

Do you have a bar that you can set up outdoors for cocktail hour? It doesnt need to be lemonade but make a signature drink (that can be made in bulk for speed of service!) in an alcoholic and non-alcoholic option. Something yummy and colorful that your guests can grab while they walk around with their date as they revel in the scenery. Serve in mason jars adorned with a bright straw, swizzle stick or a little piece of paper with your moniker (or western ranch -style brand).

Fill containers on the bar with the appropriate garnish in your color scheme (lemons, oranges, apples or limes) and you are done. Just make sure you have a bartender so no one overserves themselves . . .

Happy Anniversary - Anne and Henning!

I can't believe it's already been a year since Anne and Henning's gorgeous winter wedding at Devils Thumb Ranch. This globe trotting couple planned their incredible destination wedding from the far reaches of Germany (where Anne was finishing med school - as an American - in German. WOW) with assistance from her Mom in Charleston. We pulled off a stunning simple wedding built around white dendrobium orchids, chocolate brown linens and splashes of red!

The old rustic sign on the way to the Ranch. The wonderful mother - daughter photography team of Kokoro photography didnt miss a detail!

For this Timberhouse ceremony we set 2 large cylinder vases filled with curly willow and ivory on the ledge. Then we added 100 votives mixed with greens and river rock. A simple way to bring the outdoors in!

A few different views of the Broad Axe Barn. I love the chocolate brown in that room. It makes everything around it POP.

Inspiration - Succulents!

Yesterday, I got a phone call from a Bride interested in creating a gorgeous super green succulent based wedding. We talked about here theme and what she was looking for and she sent me the following picture from Style Me Pretty. As soon as I saw which wedding she was turning to for inspiration, I got to work right away. I LOVE THIS WEDDING. For the bride, I created the inspiration board above and designed her table centerpieces using succulents, antique green hydrangeas, purple and green kale, lotus pods and Japanese aster. Angel and Cyriac - Devils Thumb Ranch Wedding

Angel and Cyriac's winter wedding at Devils Thumb was a fantastic combination of winter ranch wonderland - meets a Swedish Ice Hotel - meets South Beach's own Delano Hotel. Angel had such a clear and perfect vision of the look and feel for her intimate December ceremony - we were honored to be a part of it.

Devils Thumb Ranch - Timberhouse Ceremony. Rather than tradional chairs, Angel and Cyriac chose to mix and match furniture from all of the Ranch to create an informal feeling. Benches covered with faux fur throws were placed side by side with leather arm chairs. End result - perfect!

I love these manzanita branches accented with crystals (what can we say . . . they are popular!)

I love this picture.

For centerpieces, Pick Me! arranged silver and white curly willow in 24" glass cylinder and filled with blue LED lights and a touch of faux snow. Over 60 candles were staggered down the center of the kings table creating a fantastic glow during dinner.

Amy and JR - Devils Thumb Ranch Wedding

Amy and JR were married in the beginning of November at Devils Thumb Ranch. We had the best day of the fall . . . for our first WINTER wedding of the season! Please enjoy these beautiful images from Poli Weddings Photography of one of our favorite couples of the year.Here is Miss Amy on her way to meet JR for their first look at the stables. Honestly? Isnt this exactly how you want to feel on your wedding day? Amy and JR chose to see each other before the ceremony for their first looks at each other. A moment this special, just for themselves (and isnt the veil great?)

If you have a family tartan, why not build decor around it? Amy honored her families Scottish roots by incorporating this plaid onto the escort cards and the table runners.

Rami designed two different centerpieces for the Broad Axe Barn. The centerpiece above was a dark manzanita branch anchored in "snow" accented with phalanopsis orchids, hanging votive LED candles and wired crystals.

For Amy and JR's chuppa, we built a simple arbor of aspen logs anchored in cement pots, covered with a touch of tulle and two all white arrangements on each side. These arrangements were made from white garden roses, dendrobium orchids, white ranunculous and purple privet berries.

We lined the aisle with a few mason jars hanging from shephard hooks filled with the white blooms and a few more berries. Each jar was wrapped with the family tartan again (here in ribbon form!)

For the second table arrangement choice, we used large cylinder vases wrapped with birch bark (I love this look) filled with larger blooms (white Oriental lilies, lisianthus, spider mums and green china berries)

Dont you want to cozy up to the HUGE fireplace in the Barn?

And the best part for us? We hung 25 black iron lanterns from the beams in the Broad Axe Barn (with LED candles, of course . . .we dont want to be the Mrs. OLeary's cow of Grand County . . .) and lined the sides of the barn with enough candles for the entire place to glow. Thank you again to Amy and JR for trusting us with the details of your day. And thank you for remembering to have fun with planning your wedding. We wish you both a lifetime of love and happiness (and sassy cowboy wisdom).

So many details, so many logistics. This is an undeniable fact when planning a destination wedding. Follow these simple steps and you will sleep easy during your planning process:

*Establish your Budget (again, the b word . . .). Stick with it!

*Pick your venue

*DO NOT SECOND GUESS YOURSELF

*Create an inspiration board, colors, textures, photos that convey the feeling you want. Bring it to your vendor meetings. Pictures ARE worth a thousand words and you will save yourself time and money!

*Put together your team of vendors. Whenever possible, choose people that play nicely together (i.e. the wedding planner likes the florist, the dj and the photographer do not have competing egos, etc) Be nice to everyone. Like the old man says - You catch more flies with honey . . .

*Iron out logistics no later than 2 weeks prior. Seating charts, ceremony walking order, timing for the day, get these things ironed out way before you arrive for your wedding weekend.

*Trust in the team that you have assembled and when all is said and done, you have to go with the flow. People forget things (I had a groom forget his shirt - we were on a ranch - no tux rental close), cars break down(again, if your vendors are all friendly, one of them can pick the other up on the way) and weather is . . .weather. When all is said and done, it is about the two of you, your families and your friends together for an
amazing celebration!

Where to start? Where to start? This is a question that we are asked from brides daily. Of course, living in a rustic little ski town, we have a slightly off center perspective. For those of you who dont know where to start, here are some of our favorite inspiration sites:

On the flip side, your inspiration doesnt need to be from a wedding site. Find pictures of fabric, textures, fields of flowers, dishes, pictures . . .whatever makes YOU happy. One of my favorite bridal bouquets ever was inspired by a picture of Colorado Alpenglow and I was told to use coxcomb. Other than that, I was told to run with it. The bouquet is the picture that I have on the top of this blog.

As for inspiration - the picture is from Jenna Walker Photography. It was one of my favorite weddings we worked on this summer. Go and find your inspiration, keep the lines of communication open with your vendors and have FUN!

Kate and Billy - Denver Wedding

Man of your dreams? Check. Two sisters who are your best friends? Check. Perfect white wedding in your parent's backyard? Check. Kate and Billy's September wedding in Denver was a perfect backyard bash. Not a detail was overlooked.

Mason jars filled with either candles or all white dahlia and freesia flowers hung off of shephard hooks that lined the aisle. Mono-blossom all white flowers adorned the tables in vintage glass bottles. Hand made wooden candles were placed on each table setting for the guests. And each of the bouquets were accented with just a touch of lavender. And the song lyrics on the cake were the sweetest sentiment that I have ever heard.

Thank you again for picking us to create your wedding flowers for you! It is a honor to be selected to assist with the second daughter of such a great family. We can't wait to hear your next album. Wait?? I didnt mention that? Yep, Kate is one half of Kate and Kacey, our favorite Nashville recording artists!

Chellie and John are the nicest people on the planet. The happy couple called our studio about 4 minutes after they had signed their contract with Devils Thumb Ranch and asked if they could come over and meet. From the minute they walked in the door, I knew I had a new friend for life.

Chellie researched every detail, was open to suggestions and enjoyed every moment of her planning process. The end result was a fantastic team of vendors I was proud to work with and a perfectly executed wedding where every detail was planned and prepared for. Lulu and Graham - Devils Thumb Ranch

Lulu and Graham, were married at Devils Thumb Ranch on September 19. This was the first "second chance" we have received. Let me explain . . .we coordinated Lulu's sisters Sarah's wedding three years ago. We love the Bael Family and felt very privileged to have the chance to work with them again.

Lulu and Graham couple live for the outdoors. Graham is a sports writer and Lulu works for REI in their corporate offices. The parents of the groom surprised the couple with a beautiful, handcrafted wooden sea kayak for them to take back to Seattle for many years of fun on the sound.

I love the "American Gothic" look that Paige Elizabeth Photography created. The couple sent out save the date card with a photo of the two of them jumping with balloons that read "We're Jumping In", then had a balloon bouquet for their guest to get their photos taken while jumping as well.

I guess now we will have to wait for little Cody to get married to be able to do another wedding for the Bael family. Cody is the little guy in the tux. We will be ready for ya!

David and Kelly's Brown Palace Wedding

David and Kelly are fun. Really fun. And they enjoy every second of life. I was fortunate enough to plan and coordinate their wedding this past August at David's parents house with the reception at the Brown Palace. From our first meeting, the ideas raced for all 3 of us. We built the decor theme around rich jewel tones with peacock feather accents. The rich royal blue dresses for the bridesmaids were set off with fuschia and deep purple accents. Individual peacock feather accented the girls hair. Deep pink petals lined the aisle as the nicest wedding party ever lined up to watch this beautiful couple exchange their vows.

The wedding party were taken to and from the Brown Palace in classic Rolls Royce cars. A huge peacock ice sculpture (with green and blue LED lights!) greeted guests upon arrival at the Brown Palace. While Denver Photobooth entertained everyone during cocktail hour. Once the doors of the ballroom were opened, revealing alternating tall and low floral arrangements on top of gold linens accented with royal blue touches. Peter Yellen and his incredible band played while the guests enjoyed dinner and David's father gave the best welcome speech of the season.

I could not have been more pleased with August 22. David and Kelly, I have no doubt that there are BIG things in your future and I cant wait to hear about them all!

Jen and Doug - Devils Thumb Ranch

What do you get when you mix 2 parts love, 6 parts favorite vendors and 1 part beautiful venue? Jen and Doug's incredible wedding at Devils Thumb Ranch.

An hour before the ceremony, I walked into Jen's Lodge Room and asked her to make a call on weather. As the lightning blasted into the meadow, Jen simply smiled and said "well that answers that!" The staff at the Ranch had the Broad Axe Barn reset in a matter of minutes (so impressive!) and we moved the ceremony indoors. Although a light sprinkle fell, by the time the ceremony was over, the clouds cleared and were able to have cocktail hour on the deck.

For the decor, we built everything off of reclaimed wood (the boxes were made from the floorboards in my first house!) purple and green flowers and a great western font. Personalized wooden nickles were everywhere and the custom coasters were a hit! Did I mention that I think Jen bought every candle in the state of California and the room absolutely glowed.

We had the good fortune of working with Paula @ Teacup, Bella Vita Salon, Tiffany and CR of Brinton Studios, Matt from Elite DJ, Charity from Wedding and Event Sitters and both of us (Kara and Rami)from Pick Me! were on site for this one!

And last week we received the kindest thank you note from Jen and Doug. It made us both laugh out loud. Thank you again for trusting the details of the day with us. We can't wait to hear about Alaska!

Jessica and Dave - Devils Thumb Ranch

Jessica and Dave were married on August 15, 2009 at Devils Thumb Ranch and I had the honor of creating both the flowers and working as the day-of coordinator for this fantastic couple. Building off a color palatte of pinks and chocolate brown, we made overflowing table arrangments that popped pink on the brown tablecloths. We were able to build everything off of Jessica's favorite flowers - dahlias and nerine lilies, which we accented with a few stems of buplerium and filled in with vendela roses and pink asiatic lilies for the bouquets, ceremony arrangements and the table centerpieces. And the dancing from not only the bride and groom, not only the bride and her father but from EVERY SINGLE guest was out of this world. And if you arent a fan of wedding cake, have a brownie bar! Here's to a great night had by all!

Tarah and Kyle - Grand Lake Wedding

Tarah and Kyle were married in Grand Lake on August 1, 2009 in one of the most beautiful storybook-fairy tale weddings that I have ever been a part of. It was simply beautiful.

The couple met last summer at the lake (her parents have a place there and his grandparents live next door). Throughout the course their first weekend, they fell madly in love sitting on the end of the dock (how perfect is that?) got married a year later at the same church where Kyle's parents AND grandparents got married (so perfect) and arrived at their reception (at her parents house) in a horse drawn carriage (of course), danced the night away (on a dance floor constructed ON THE DOCK where they first fell in love) and left on a ski boat. It was absolutely a fairy tale . . .and possibly a Taylor Swift song. Here are some of my photos on the event for now. I will be posting Rachel Terry's here in a few weeks.

Renee and Austin were married on July 4, 2009 at Pole Creek Golf Course. Working with a color scheme of white, blue and green, Pick Me! created flowers that simply popped against the beautiful deep green grass of the golf course. Wildhorse Catering did a fantastic job, the skies cleared just in time for the outdoor ceremony and Renee looked absolutely beautiful (accented with an orchid cascade bouquet). Sarah and Lawrence were married at Columbine Point at Snow Mountain Ranch on Saturday. This wedding was early and fun! A 10:30 ceremony at Columbine Point was topped off by a horse and buggy ride around the pond for the bride and groom while the guests went to the Just Ranch Homestead Site for the reception. Sherri Kent of ShowBoat Catering pulled off an fantastic lunch for everyone. The tent was decorated with simple chocolate brown tablecloths and bright pink chair bows. Each table had 4 different sized mason jars filled with bright pink, white and lime green flowers - a favorite look for a tent!

Devils Thumb Ranch, Pink and Orange

Kristen and Spencer were married at Devils Thumb Ranch On July 18, 2009. I had so much fun with this wedding from day one! Kristen's Mom Bet hired us for flowers site unseen last fall. From the first phone call, I knew I had a new friend for life. We built the wedding decor around "big happy fun flowers." That was the direction I was given from Kristen. After deciding on an apple green, pink and orange color palatte, Kristen picked lilies, roses and gerber daisies. This is one of Pick Me's favorite looks to create. We draped the tables with apple green organza overlays and created a large kings table in the middle of the Broad Axe Barn to break up the usual seating in the space. Spencer's Mom Trish hired us to do the rehearsal dinner flowers so we were able to create smaller versions of the ceremony arrangements in 4" galvanized tins and reuse them the next day as extra decor.

After meeting and deciding on flowers, Bet and Kristen hired us for day-of coordination. So we were fortunate enough to work with local blugrass band Hunker Down, Paula from Tea-Cup Bakery and CR and Tiffany from Brinton Studios. Paula created individual table cakes that were served to each table right before toasts. Trust me, nothing brings a table together like cutting into a beautiful cake and serving each other HUGE slices of cake.

Wine corks were used as place card holders and as the couple left the reception, they rode off into the night on a wagon - complete with Cabin Creek Stable horses - as there guests played bright orange kazoos. Yep, there was a kazoo send off. These are my kind of people!

Christine and Dave were married July 17 at Devils Thumb Ranch in Tabernash, CO. This wedding was so . . ., much . . . fun! A few highlights to share with you. First of all Dave and Christine are extremely kind people. And they listen to each other. I mean, really listen. And I love the midwest. His family came in from Iowa and hers from Chicago - and quite a party ensued.

From a design standpoint, we built the wedding around tiny white and orange flowers and played off of Christine's love of orchids. Single phalaonopsis orchids wrapped in muslin accented with orange ribbon were placed on the middle of each picnic table. Christine made orange runners out of a anthropologie inspired fabric that ran the length of each table. In the white tent, against the woodchips, everything popped. For the ceremony we mixed curly willow with tiny white flowers and wrapped the vases in birch bark. And the bouquets were orange mokara orchids (a personal favorite).

After the ceremony the groomsmen (again so nice!) were all given big old belt buckles and straw cowboy hats for pictures. I swear, their walks even changed with these costumes.

The super yummy cupcakes were created from Happy Cakes. Carrot, S'mores and the Strawberry Lemonade cupcakes were a huge hit with the guests (and me!). And once again, Matt from Elite DJ outdid himself. Before it was even dark, I saw the bride's brother-in-law grab a straw cowboy hat and do the BEST Michael Jackson impersonation I have ever seen in my life only to be outdone by the guy who started to do the worm . . .on woodchips.

I wish these two would get married every weekend.

This weekend we had the honor of coordinating Libby and John's wedding at Devils Thumb Ranch. I'd like to share a few of the details that will stick with us for a long time to come.

Libby and John's wedding was about 2 families coming together. Every single aspect of the wedding weekend was about their kids (some little and some grown) and the love John and Libby have for them. Bands played, kids danced, wagon rides were had and in honor of Michael Jackson, I believe the cocktail hour on the deck was a "thriller." Thanks to Matt from Elite DJ, the crowd boogied down!

Libby chose to break from tradition in a beautiful white floral dress. It was simple stunning. We also had the joy of working with Miss Amy Keating of the Flower House on the decor. She handled all of the floral side while we worked the linen aspect. We were able to combine forces and reuse the sunflower buckets from Friday's rehearsal dinner as extra decor for the ceremony (echoing her incredible sunflower garland) while Amy kept the tone of the BroadAxe Barn more formal with tall arrangements made from roses, hydrangeas and oriental lilies.

All in all, a great weekend was had . . .by all!

Aimme and Ezra got married today at Sunspot at the top of Winter Park Ski Area. Such a nice couple! We designed the wedding around daisies. Using gerbers, spider mums, kermit mums and poms, the bouquets looked bright and happy as the girls walked off of the chairlift directly into the ceremony (how is that for an entrance!). The tablescapes were created on wooden beetlekill logs using 4-5 antique mason jars filled with mono-blossom arrangements and accented with candles. For the ceremony site, we placed our Pick Me Planters set on plant stands for a little something (while not trying to one up the view) Thank you to Michelle and Mark of In Photography for these incredible images!!

Libby and John know how to throw a party. This weekend at Devils Thumb Ranch, Rami and I had the honor of coordinating the wedding and creating the decor for the rehearsal dinner at Heck's Tavern. Bright yellow sunflowers accented with red hypericum berries filled galvanized tin pots. Red checked napkins were rolled and placed at each table setting. Bright red laterns held tea lights on each table. Twinkle lights lit up the umbrellas on the deck. And the topper of it all was a huge candy bar with personalized bags that read simply . . .love is sweet.

I am a dog lover. My husband and I share our home with 3 fantastic large furballs named Roscoe, Jameson and Drake (above is my favorite puppy photo of him, now he's 100 lbs!). We plan a lot of our lives around these 3 boys so I understand when you want your best furry friend there to support you on your big day. But if you are headed to beautiful Winter Park (or the surrounding areas) for a wedding, please consider what your dog will be doing after you say "I DO" Do you really want them sitting in the hotel room for 8 hours? If not, please consider Rocky Mountain Dog Ranch in Tabernash. Local friends have used their services for vacations and several clients have come back with glowing reports of how happy their dogs were after the weekend at the dog ranch. Remember, sometimes easier IS better!

Breckie and Matt's wedding at Devil's Thumb Ranch was one of my favorite events so far! We used beetlekill stumps and placed individual lanterns surrounded by succelents and sunflowers. Pick Me Floral and Event Design created bright and happy bouquets made of sunflowers and viking poms in front of purple bridemaids dresses. Again, we used the poms accented with thistle (and in the grooms case, accented with a fly for fishing on Sunday) and for Breckie's bouquet, I got to play. We used purple stock, green mini-hydrangeas, purple amenonies, viking poms, veronica, blue thistle and fern shoots for something fun and new! Devil's Thumb Ranch and Pick Me Floral Rehearsal Dinner Fun

Breckie and Matt got married yesterday at Devil's Thumb Ranch and it was, quite frankly, one of the biggest weddings we have ever done. And it was fantastic! Thursday night a welcome dinner was held in the Ranch House. We used our ground cover and pansy galvanized tin containers as table decor and built on these pots for the rest of the evening. Friday night, a huge rehearsal dinner was held in Hecks. Ear2Ear Photobooth set up on the deck while Arnie J Green played outside. We hung daisy pots from shephard hooks around the edge of the deck. A 7 station buffet was set up right outside of the entrance. And inside Hecks, custom made linens with incredible overlays in rich tones of golds and purples. On each table recycled metal manzanita branch candelabras glowed next to amethyst, citrine and quartz candles.

Emily and Neil got married on Saturday, June 13 at St Anne's in Grand Lake with a the reception following at the Daven Haven Lodge. Grand Lake holds a special place in my heart so I was thrilled to create a yellow and white wildflower theme for Emily. We used gerber daisies, chamomile, agapanthus and spider orchids for a loose tumbling summer feeling. And Carey at the Daven Haven Lodge always throws a great party! I cant wait to see the rest of your pictures.

Peggy and Nick got married Friday, June 12 at Devil's Thumb Ranch. This couple was kind, thoughtful and a helluva lot of fun! Peggy let Nick have blue and orange as colors because he is a diehard Bronco fan. Seriously. There was an online ultimate fighting challenge to assign roles for groomsmen in the wedding (yes, the ringbearers were 30 years old) and I have never seen a crowd (especially a bride) dance that hard for that long. Thanks to Ian from Elite DJ. Great Job! I cant wait to see the photos from Don and Christie with Estes Photography. And when Nick called me on Sunday morning and told me that the only thing that could have made his wedding better was "if he's remembered to put deodorant on on Friday morning" I knew that we had done a good job. Have a great honeymoon, you two! I hope to see you in New Mexico in October!!

Gift Bags, Planters and Engagement Portraits

Wow, we have a lot going on in the next few weeks. Luckily for us, our clients are nice people. Breckie and her Mom came by to drop off some more of the decor items for the Devils Thumb Ranch Event(s) next weekend. This wedding is going to be stunning, eco-friendly, full of crazy good food (and LOTS of it) and the gift bags are in reusable bags! (with really good salsa . . .thanks Gayle)

Rachel Terry of Stellar-Photography just posted some engagement pictures of Kyle and Tarah. I am looking forward to this August 1 wedding in Grand Lake. This wedding is going to be stunning (and looking at the blog pictures, it's not hard to see why!) The flowers are going to be to-die-for. I want it to be August already so I can create this one. In the meantime, I have a bit of logistical coordination to get after.

Happy Monday everyone. Yesterday I picked up the rest of the plants for our rental planters. We have a total of 12 large and 25 small available for rentals through out the summer wedding season. It really is a cost effective, environmentally responsible way to add a little extra flair to your wedding venue or reception without breaking the budget. We have planted a variety of hardy blooms, from native Colorado ground cover and succulents to bright pink and purple pansies and petunias. Definitely a decor idea for any and everyone to explore.

Winter Park Weddings - Pick Me Floral and Events - Pole Creek Golf Course

Today was a good one here at the Pick Me Floral and Event Studio. The sun was shining (at least this morning it was) and we created some beautiful pieces for mock-ups and for our friends at Pole Creek Golf Course and the opening of the new clubhouse. The picture above is the arrangement I have sitting on my desk. Yellow roses alwasy remind me of my Mom, they are her favorite. That reminds me, I should call her today.

Rami and I were treated to lunch by the wonderful Nigel at Pole Creek Golf Course today.
The new clubhouse is open and it is BEAUTIFUL!!!! The decor is soft and neutral (i.e perfect for any kind of decor anyone would ever want to do), the ceiling is super tall - giving the entire room such a great feeling, a fireplace inside AND out on the deck and the views, well, I dont golf but I would have an event there. ANY DAY! The food was absolutely fantastic. If you are looking for a great place for a smaller wedding or a rehearsal dinner, check this one out.

I dont know about anyone else but I think this could be a great space for winter weddings in Winter Park. You will have the entire place for you and your guests and the customer service is top notch. I can't wait to see what they do next.

Happy Spring Flowers were the theme for this weekends beautiful wedding at the Wildhorse Inn in Tabernash, Colorado. Wildhorse Inn is a sentimental favorite for both Rami and I. After all, it was John and Chris who gave us our first wedding four summers ago. Wow, have things "blossomed" for us and my, how time flies. Teehee.

Today, I have blogged, tweeted and created a Pick Me Floral and Event Design Studio Page on Facebook. Now it's off to work on glassware for Julie and Andre's wedding at Devils Thumb Ranch in August. I like where we are headed with this one. It's going to be intimate and stunning.

Pick Me! Floral and Events at DTR Memorial Day Weekend

Pick Me Floral and Events was lucky enough to be booked to do 3 events at Devils Thumb Ranch this weekend. The two weddings (and one fantastic rehearsal dinner) couldnt have been further apart in terms of design but a common thread ran through both weddings. These brides were unbelievably kind, refined and they carried themselves with timeless grace throughout the planning process and the day. Both Maggie and L'Erin were dreams to work with.

Starting with Friday, for L'Erin and Adam we created a beautiful ivory and navy theme. Sheer navy overlays were placed on the tables and we created all white floral arrangements in low round vases with flowers spilling over the sides. Luckily for me, Jenna Walker was the photographer for this wedding so check back in a few weeks and you will see the incredible photos. L'Erin and Adam worked with CC and Paige of www.coloradoweddingco.com and they pulled off a perfect intimate wedding. It's now Sunday afternoon as I write this post and L'Erin and Adam just stopped by to return some glassware. They even cleaned it. It's the little things . . .

Friday night, Pick Me created a bright orange and red cowboy theme for the BBQ tent. Large galvanized tins filled with bright orange and red gerber daises, roses and carnations were accented with bright red bandanas.

Saturday, Pick Me created an orange and silver wedding for Maggie and Marc. Again we used the galvanized tins filled with bright and happy orange lilies, gerbers and roses. Randy Waters was our fantastic DJ for the evening, Brad Baldwin was our photographer and Paula of Teacup created a beautiful and super yummy (well, I HAD to try it!) cake. Kudos to Marc, Maggie and their phenominal attendants and friends. Everyone was wonderful! I cant wait to see the Brad's photos!

Orchids at Devil's Thumb Ranch

Mark and Annie are quite possibly the most adorable couple ever. She is all sass and fantastic. He has a heart of gold. We started working on their wedding last August, and I have to say, it has been time well spent. Every email exchanged made me laugh. Trust me, that doesnt always happen.

Here are a few of my pictures from yesterday. Luckily for all of us, CR and Tiffany of Brinton Studios were the photographers of the day. Check back in a few weeks for the REAL pictures of this one!

The inspiration for the flowers like this. Annie said "I want coxcomb, it was the first flower that Mark ever bought me and I love orchids." She then proceeded to hand me a picture of the Colorado sky in peak alpenglow and said "go for it."

One more note, Annie's dress was fierce. She looked like a frosted sassy cupcake and everyone at the event LOVED it. Here's to NOT following the pack and breaking out on your own!

Jon and Marie had a perfect winter wedding in the Broad Axe Barn at Devils Thumb. I have never met a couple who was so completely kind with each other. Let that be a lesson to us all when planning weddings . . . remember to be kind. A simple thing that means so much.

Winter Park Weddings - Springtime = Go Time!

Well it's just another day in paradise. The sun is trying to shine and Rami and I are rocking along in the studio today - Kicking A and Taking Names. First off, Crystal from Colorado Party Rentals just gave us some FANTASTIC new decor for the mock tables. Rami has completely redecorated the studio and frankly, it looks pretty darn great. With the new decor, we are feeling revitalized and ready to tackle the season.

For Pick Me Events, we start with Annie and Mark's wedding at Devils Thumb Ranch next weekend. We are fortunate enough to be doing flowers and day-of coordination for this sasstastic couple. From the first meeting we hit it off and things have been clicking along. What can I say? I love sassy folks from Chicago.

Speaking of sassy folks from Chicago, I returned this morning from Miami (a GREAT weekend with my best girlfriends from the Windy City). Fantastic hotel - Eden Roc, Fantastic Dinners - Barton G's, Escopazzo and (of course) Joe's Crab Shack. We saw some famous people (but who am I to drop names??) and they were even more adorable in person AND we all had drinks at the Delano. WOW. I couldnt have loved this place more . . .

Rami had a slightly more tame holiday, traveling to Cave Creek, Arizona with her husand to visit old friends. Hiking, hanging out by the pool and catching up were the order of the day.

So I am off to book a party bus for a wedding at the Brown Palace. This wedding is going to be beautiful!!!

Okay, Emily and Keith were fantastic and fun. AND, the nicest thank you ever was sent this morning. Not to toot our own horns too much but this note just made my day!!!

"I can't say it enough -- you guys were great. I know you went way beyond the call of duty with all of your extra touches (serving meals, cookies and milk, & all the little details you did not let get past you)! I am planning to send you guys a pkg of thanks ... after Easter! *I hope you girls are busy this weekend!! Again -- you guys really made our event(s) so extra special-- I can't thank you enough. Both Keith and I have said multiple times, "Rami & Kara were the BEST thing we did!" I hope we can all have a beer together soon, when we come back to DTR this summer!"

Cowboy Kitsch!!

A little red goes a long way! Yesterday at Devils Thumb Ranch we got to create the cowboy wedding in the intimate space of the glass roomed TimberHouse. Bright red gerber daisies and tulips were the base of the floral design. Red bandanas were everywhere. Red marbles were placed in the bottom of floatin candle cylinders and yes, Miss Paula from Teacup created a cow cake. Yep, a cow cake. Here's to having fun and enjoying!!!

Yesterday, we got to do a great wedding at Devils Thumb. First of all, Emily and Keith are two of the sweetest people we have ever met AND they drove through the blizzard of the season to get to Colorado for their wedding.

1950's-Cowboy-Kitsch-with-a-hipster-edge could have been a theme for this one. Everything was turquoise, red and pink. The table numbers were hand made by the groom, cardboard chargers under each place setting, menus rolled with twine and Emily's grandmothers typewriter was used instead of a guest book so everyone could type letters to this couple. Best part, half of us couldnt remember how to use a typewriter!!!

Personal favorite part of this one - the groom and groomsmen all had corresponding colored vans on. Thank you both for having FUN and enjoying your day.
